El Dia De Los Muertos 2013 at Eye’s Gallery
It’s definitely fall out there now (I was actually chilly walking to work this morning)! I love this weather though, and this time of year, gearing up for one of my favorite holidays (and yours, I’m sure): El Dia De Los Muertos! This year, we have a number of events going on to help you participate in the festivities and in honoring our loved ones who have passed on. We also have a wonderful selection of awesome new Day of the Dead items in, to fulfill your every Day of the Dead wish and desire :).
SUGAR SKULL DECORATING WORKSHOP – Wednesday, October 16th, 5 – 7 pm. $5
This year, our very own James will be leading a workshop in the fun process of sugar skull decorating. Sugar skull-making is one of the telltale signs of the upcoming Mexican celebration of Day of the Dead. It is also an extremely fun, creative, and expressive activity for adults and kids alike!
Each year, elaborate altars, decorated with marigolds, candles, incense, special foods, and sugar skulls are created to welcome the deceased back to their homes. Sugar skulls, made from sugar, meringue powder, and water are then decorated with bright pieces of foil, beads, colored icing, and other creative components. Come design your own! This workshop is presented as part of Design Philadelphia.

ANNUAL JOEL GARCIA WORKSHOPS – Friday October 25th, 1-3 pm, Saturday October 26th and Sunday October 27th, 1-3 pm, 4-6 pm.$40 per class, 2 classes per workshop
The wonderful Joel Garcia will be returning once again to Eye’s Gallery. This year he will be conducting a Papier-Mâché Demons workshop to usher in the celebration of El Dia De Los Muertos. We’re excited to see him again and to see what wonderful creations emerge from his workshops!
During the first day of the workshop attendees will build the armature for their demons. The next day is reserved for the intricate painting process. $20/hr.

FRONT WINDOW COMMUNITY ALTAR
We are once again going to create a beautiful altar in the front window to honor our loved ones (including pets) who have passed away in the past ten years. Please send your photos to contact@eyesgallery.com to be included.
